- defence.
Australian Government departments
The Commonwealth Ombudsman considers and investigates complaints from people who believe they have been treated unfairly or unreasonably by an Australian Government department or agency or certain private sector organisations, including:
- Department of Defence
- Australia Post
- Centrelink
- Services Australia
- Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
The Commonwealth Ombudsman is also the ACT Ombudsman.
Private Health Insurance Ombudsman
The Private Health Insurance Ombudsman protects the interests of private health insurance consumers in a number of ways. The role of Private Health Insurance Ombudsman is managed through the Commonwealth Ombudsman.
If you are a member of a private health fund and you are having an issue that you can’t resolve directly with them, the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman can assist you through their independent service for handling complaints.
Overseas Student Ombudsman
The Overseas Student Ombudsman investigates complaints about problems that international students have with private schools, colleges and universities (education providers) in Australia. The role of Overseas Students Ombudsman is managed through the Commonwealth Ombudsman.
