Health Complaints

Tasmanian Health Complaints Commissioner

The Health Complaints Commissioner can accept complaints about any health service provider in Tasmania, in both the private and public sectors. The Commissioner will not usually accept a complaint if you became aware of the issue more than two years ago. We can help you work out the best way to approach making a complaint. Successful resolution of a complaint is more likely if you are realistic about your desired outcomes.

You can contact the Office of the Health Complaints Commissioner on 1800 001 170.

Aged Care Nursing Homes

Please contact the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. The Commission is the primary contact for providers and consumers in relation to quality and safety in the aged care sector, including complaints. The Commission can be contacted by phone on 1800 951 822 or via the website at www.agedcarequality.gov.au.

Insurance

Private Health Insurance Ombudsman

The role of the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman is to protect the interests of private health insurance consumers in a number of ways, including assisting health fund members to resolve disputes through our independent complaints handling service and identifying underlying problems in the practices of private health funds or health care providers in relation to the administration of private health insurance. Contact them to make an online complaint. This is managed through the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The NDIS in Tasmania is available to all eligible Tasmanians.
